Marilda Timpany, died 1840. Timpany Family Burying Ground, Cos Cob

The Timpany plot is another very small burying ground. It is located in the town park off the west side of Bible Street in Cos Cob.

The earliest tombstone found here is dated 1811, the latest from 1871. Earlier listings note more graves than today, suggesting that some markers may have been removed.

The memorials themselves are carved out of brownstone and marble, with concrete casings reminding the latter 20th century visitor of earlier restoration efforts. The cemetery is maintained by the Greenwich Parks Department.
Not much is known about those who are interred at this site except John Timpany. He was a private during the War of 1812 in Captain Horton Reynolds' Company.

The Obadiah Timpany house at one time stood near the corner of Orchard Street and Valley Road.

Marilda Timpany,
died February 23, 1840,
aged 23 years, 4 months and 29 days.

Rest in peace thy trials end
Hark, from yon celestial sphere
Bursts the full angelic chorus

Sister spirit, welcome here.

Benjamin H. Reynolds,
son of Ard and Ann Eliza Reynolds,
died November 20, 1821,
aged 8 years, 1 month and 13 days.

This lovely bud so young and fair
Call'd home by early doom.
Just came to show how sweet the flower

In paradise would it bloom.

Proverbs 31 Chapter:
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her
price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely
in her so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her house
hold, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed;

her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Jesper Knapp, died 1835. Knapp Cemetery, Round Hill

Jesper Knapp,
died December 29, 1835.
His mind was tranquil and serene
No terrour in his looks was seen
The Savior smil'd and dispel'd the gloom
And sooth'd his paings to the tomb.

Sarah Knapp, daughter of Joshua & Charity Knapp, died 1836. Knapp Cemetery, Round Hill

Sarah Knapp, daughter of Joshua & Charity Knapp,
died December 2, 1836.
O'er the grave we shed the tears
For nature words unbound
The sacred spot we tread with care,
For it is holy ground.
The tears still flow our hearts do not repine
Their grave shall be to us earth's time
And whilst their absence oft we do deplore
We yet will meet to part again no more.
The unsettled dust shall rise again
And be like Jesus blest
The soul is with the unbound train

For heaven its peaceful rest.

Charity Mead, wife of Joshua Knapp, died 1842. Knapp Cemetery, Round Hill.

Charity Mead, wife of Joshua Knapp,
died November 16, 1842.
By her integrity, disinterested benevolence,
faith and charity, she beautifully exemplified
the Christian Religion. The death came
very suddenly, she was entirely resigned.
Her mind clear and serene, filled with the
presence of God, she anticipated meeting in
Heaven many of her parted friends to
enjoy with them the presence of God.

Devoid of envy, selfishness and guile
Resting on Christ with every calm light
Thro' death's dark vale she passed without a tear

And faith & hope exchanged for blissful sight.
