Exclaiming with a smile about half an hour before he expired, Sleep in Jesus
Aged 18 years, 5 months and 17 days.
Gifted with strong and ready mind
He learning sought with taste refined
On Christ in early years believed,
And pardon from his youthful hopes were bright
Consumption came with withering blight
He saw his fate, his life reviewed:
Then, by the same disease which bore
From weeping friends the three before,
O'er come with life's last ebbing tide
Exclaiming, "Sleep in Jesus," died.
